I enjoyed this volume much better than book 5. While Book 5 ended well, I just had a hard time not being annoyed with Harry. In Book 6, he seems to have matured a great deal. This was a much more interesting story in that Harry is now an upperclassman and has more responsibility and is looked up to. Also, the teachers seem more like peers to him rather than mentors.
The ending certainly was dramatic and it will be interesting to see what it does to Harry’s character in the final book. I had thought Rowling was slowing declining as the series went along, but this was a step up in drama and twists. I will admit that this was the first time I had been surprised by the details of the climatic moments.
Good stuff, I’m eager to read the final book!
