It’s been a while since I’ve read any fresh science fiction. Scalzi does great in his first outing with a fun adventure and some great ideas about how society and technology has changed. I liked the little bit of philosophy presented with the question of what it means to be human. Scalzi doesn’t beat that drum to death, though. He moves on with a variety of environments and challenging ideas. But, the icing that made the cake is his humor. It’s not forced. It felt natural. And, it wasn’t used just to relieve tension. It showed up in unusual places, just like with real life.
A great book with an enjoyable universe. Well worth the read.
