This is a really fascinating book. I will admit, however, to having my interest fade as I read. While Alcorn starts with some very solid reasoning based on the Scripture, his later chapters are mostly speculation. To his credit, he makes that clear, but it’s educated guessing at best.
I love the idea of making Heaven more real for the reader. I certainly left the book with a more powerful desire to go to Heaven and a stronger longing for it than when I began. There are aspects of life there that I hadn’t considered before and make me desire it all the more.
Some of the details the author goes into, though, are more than I really needed to be convinced. I suppose some folks will be looking for that one thing to sell them on the idea, but I didn’t need that.
I think a critic would have much to pick at here, but it would miss the point. Heaven is a very real place, with an active, productive life waiting for all who live there. While the details are interesting discussions, they won’t make or break the sale with me.
